Tim Woolsey

Tim completed his doctorate in piano performance in 1976 and for 35 years taught undergraduate and graduate piano at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He has concertized extensively and performance venues have included the National Gallery of Art, the Phillips Collection, and Shatin Town Hall in Hong Kong.

Tim has had a deep interest in art since childhood and is in the process of donating an extensive collection of work on paper to the School of Art and Design at Texas State. He has been doing pastel portraits and landscapes (all scenes on the coast of Maine) since retiring from college teaching in 2010. He has participated in several shows sponsored by the Austin Pastel Society and has won top prizes from that organization each year. He has also shown in "We, the People" a portrait show sponsored by the city of Keller, Texas, and at the Austin Emporium and Bakery Show in Dec. of 2018. His teachers have been Polly Lanning Sparrow, Neal Wilson, Eve Larson, DK Richardson, and Danny Grant.

Commissioned Portraits

Tim works from photographs and from life. Ideally, he would like to have you sit so he can make some sketches from life. Then photos are taken so work can continue in the studio. He prefers to take the photos himself, but if you have a favorite photo that you would like to use, please no flash photos. Preferably it will be a high resolution and with good contrast of light and shadow. He will complete the portrait and then send an image. He pledges to work for your complete satisfaction. Payment will be based on size and complexity and will be agreed upon in advance and requested upon completion. Since these are pastels, they must be kept behind glass. Non reflective museum glass will be used. Framing costs (usually around $75-$100) and shipping (if necessary) will be added to the commission fee.
